The requirements for renewing a lapsed licensed can vary from one state to another.  Many states will require you to take a CNA refresher course if your certification has lapsed.  This course is intended to provide you with a re-introduction to the certified nursing assistant field if you  have not worked in the field for awhile.  The course is needed to make certain that you still have the knowledge and skills you need to work as a nursing assistant.  The length of refresher training programs can vary depending on the state where you live and work and the facility providing the course.

Where and How to Attend a CNA Refresher Course

You might very well receive or be able to receive information about how to renew your certification and details on a refresher course from the Nursing Aide Registry in your state.  If you cannot find the information you need, you can try to contact the Nursing Board to find out if they have any information pertaining to the recertification of certified nursing assistants or if they could refer you to the State Department that handles these issues for certified nursing assistants.

Courses can be offered in a variety of locations.  A refresher course must be approved by the state in order for it to make you eligible to obtain certification once again.  A training program is often offered at a nursing care facility.  This could be s skilled nursing home or even a continuing care community.  Sometimes other types of healthcare facilities also offer such courses.  You will find that some colleges and institutes of higher learning will also provide C N A refresher courses.

More About the Course

A CNA Refresher course will include a classroom portion.  There should also be some type of clinical segment provided.  This will provide you with the opportunity to practice your certified nursing assistant skills once again.  This is particularly important if you have not worked as a certified nursing assistant for quite some time.  The exact topics covered by the course can vary among states and even courses themselves.

There are various topics areas that are likely to be covered.  You will probably receive an overview about the CNA career as well as an overview of the duties and responsibilities of a nursing assistant.  You will likely learn once again how to protect a patient’s privacy as well as their dignity.  Communication skills should be practiced once again.  A refresher course should include information about infection control

The refresher course will help you to once again learn the basic nursing care skills that you will be using as a nursing assistant.  You will learn the ways to help patients with activities of daily living.  It is likely that the course will include training on how to provide end of life care for patients.  You will also learn how to provide restorative care services.

A refresher course will prepare you to once again work as a certified nursing assistant.  You will practice the skills that you might not have used for awhile.  Some states will require successful completion of the course only.  There might be some states or circumstances under which you need to also sit for the nursing assistant certification exam.

How do I get free CNA classes from the Job Corps?

2) You visit the centre near you and enrol in the Nursing assistant program. Its that easy!

Do I have to live at the Job Corps for the duration of my training?

Not really. Some Centres allow for the possibility of staying off their premises and only showing up for the classes. You will have to call up the centre near you and see if they allow for this. It is however recommended to stay at the Job Corps Centre since you receive free basic medical care as well as dental. What other training options does the Job Corps provide?

Job Corps offers free training in several health occupations:  C.N.A., L.P.N., Clinical Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician and Pharmacy Technician.   The C.N.A. program takes approximately 4 months.  Students can also get a GED or high school diploma while they learn a trade at Job Corps. Since students can stay in Job Corps up to two years (free housing, meals, training, education, etc. for two years), many decide to stay and go on to LPN or one of the other areas of study.

Is the Job Corps for everyone?

No it isn’t. Even if you qualify by being between 18 to 24 years old, it might just not be the right fit for you. There are a lot of rules you need to follow and adhere to. Some people may get offended by the amount of discipline enforcement done within the centre. If you’re someone whose goal is to simply benefit from the education regardless of the environment then maybe it is for you. You should contact someone who’s been in the Job Corps before to see if it is the right fit for you.

There is no minimum requirement and students who wish to apply need not have a GED or high school diploma. You can complete your GED for free at the facility in conjunction with any other training you may take.

In order to become a CNA online, you need to find an online CNA training program.  Keep in mind that you will need to complete the clinical portion of your training offline.  There are many nurse aide training programs listed on the Internet.  You can also contact local community colleges and allied health schools to determine if they offer training online.

You will need to find an online program that is fully accredited and will make you eligible to sit for a CNA certification exam in your state.  If you are unsure as to whether the training course is fully accredited, you can contact the board of nursing aide registry in your state.

Once you find the right online course for you, take the time to enroll in the CNA training program.  You will receive instructions on how to complete your studies.  You will most likely need to read materials and take tests or quizzes online.  Some training courses will have interactive portions of the course as well as virtual lab work.

In order to successfully complete an online program, you will need to set aside each day to complete your work.  You will need to take time to complete your assignments and take your quizzes as well.  It will take some self-discipline in order to make the most of an online CNA training program.

If you have any problems with your online training, you will need to contact your instructor or instructors.  Do not be afraid to ask questions.  You should also use any other class resources or study resources that are available.  There might even be forums where you can interact with other students.

At some point during your online CNA training, you will need to complete the clinical portion of your test.  This will need to be done at a local healthcare facility in your area.  Your instructor at your online school can help you to arrange your clinical experience.  During this time, you will complete a variety of tasks under the supervision of a nurse (or other healthcare provider).

After you have gone through the entire length of a certified nursing assistant training, you will need to take an exam to complete your certification.  The test will have two sections which will include both a written and procedural test.  You will need to pass each part to be on your way to receiving a certification.

If you are looking to start a career as a CNA, you will need to find good education options for you.  Take your time to find the best course for your needs.

If you are currently working in a healthcare facility, you could approach your employer about the possibility of training to become a nursing assistant.  If your facility trains their certified nursing assistants directly, you might be asked to train for your new career at no cost to you.  The facility might not offer training directly but still be able to help.  They might be willing to pay all or part of your tuition for training offered at another location.  You must show your motivation, interest and enthusiasm when looking to your employer to help with CNA training.

It is sometimes possible to receive training at no cost to you if you have been interviewed and hired for a job as a certified nursing assistant.  IT is sometimes possible to be hired before you have your certification. The employer might then offer you access to free CNA training as long as you come work for them.

If you are not working through no fault of your own and wish to start a new career, training to be a nursing assistant might be an option.  Talk to an unemployment officer or someone at a job placement agency for details about potential free or low cost CNA training programs.  You might be able to start your new career without breaking your bank.

The options above might not always fit your particular situation.  This does not mean that you cannot still find affordable training options.  Contact the nursing department of one or more local healthcare facilities for referrals to colleges and other organizations offering CNA training programs.  You can then take the time to research all programs to find out if any offer low cost training.

There are even some CNA training classes that can be completed on the Internet.  Of course, this does not work for your hands on training.  By taking some of the coursework online, you might be able to save some money on tuition.  This will help you to make your training more affordable

If you are taking a training program through a college or university, make certain that the program is not eligible for any type of financial aid or scholarships.  If you find out that it is, you should apply for the the scholarships or financial aid.  Any money that you receive towards the cost of the training program will make it more affordable to you.  In some cases, you might even get enough help to cover the entire cost of the program.

Take your time to search for various CNA training options.  You might find that is it not as difficult as you think to find low cost opportunities when you want to start a career as a certified nursing assistant.

There are various places that you can attend CNA training classes in order to prepare for a job as a nursing assistant.  One such option that might be available to you is a training course through the American Red Cross.  The Red Cross is not always able to offer CNA classes in every state.

Get in touch with your local Red Cross Chapter to inquire about CNA classes.  If there are classes available you will want to ask questions about how to register for a course and how long it will take to complete. You will also want to know what fees are associated with completing this course including test fees for the certification examination.

A Red Cross CNA training class will offer you a well respected CNA training option.  Classes through the Red Cross are very thorough and will prepare you will for a job working as a nursing assistant.  The courses are not easy which means you will need to study hard and ask for help when needed.  These courses through the Red Cross are intended to be challenging so that you are well prepared for your career.

You will have academic studies as well as clinical practice when preparing to become a CNA.  You will learn about the vital role that a nursing assistant plays in the care of a patient.  Your courses will teach you to provide good bedside care for an ill or injured patient.  You will learn how to take vital signs and assist individuals with daily activities.  During your training course, you will learn  how to work with nurses and the other healthcare staff to care for patients.

It is necessary for you to attend all Red Cross CNA class sessions.  This includes both classroom sessions and those in a clinical setting.  The course will likely last for several weeks.  You cannot miss a class without missing vital information which is why your course will not be complete if you have classes that you do not attend.

There will be a test that you need to take in order to successfully complete your training and to become certified.  You must do very well on this test.  In fact, you cannot score lower than an 80% or you will not become certified.  There will be a skill test which is when you put when you have learned into practice.  Not surprisingly, there will also be a written portion of the test.  Both tests parts must be completed successfully.

Having completed a CNA training class through the Red Cross will look good on your resume.  You should be able to find a challenging and rewarding job after completing this coursework.

One of the best options for CNA school, is to take the American Red Cross CNA Training.  They offer a superb certified nursing aide program in 36 different locations throughout the country.  Students seem to be among the best prepared to take the certification after completing coursework and clinical training through the American Red Cross.

Allied health colleges are another good choice if you are looking for good CNA schools.  These types of schools typically offer diploma, certification and Associate’s Degree.  They are a good choice if you want to start a career in the health field but do not want to go to school for a long length of time.  You can locate fully accredited colleges offering excellent nursing assistant classes.

You can also attend regular community colleges if you want extensive CNA training.  Some of these programs will even offer you the opportunity to learn some nursing assistant specialties so that you have higher earning potentials.  Take your time so that you find an educational option at a school that best meets your needs, budget and schedule.

Many nursing schools also offer training for those who want to become certified nursing assistants.  A nursing school provides another one of the best ways to train for a career as a nursing aide.  You will be well prepared for your certification testing as well as your career after completing a course through a nursing school.  You should contact any nursing schools in your area to determine which ones offer programs for people who want to study to become nursing assistants.

Although it is not a school itself, many nursing home facilities and some other healthcare facilities also offer CNA training.  Many of these places like to offer in house training to new employees.  This is a good way to prepare people for certification while also having the opportunity to teach students what it is like to work in that particular facility and healthcare setting.

You should search online for reviews on any nursing assistant schools of interest in your area.  This will provide you with a good way to find those schools that are most reputable.  You can also contact the nursing aide registry in your area to verify that a nursing assistant school of interest is fully accredited.

The cost for attending nursing assistant schools in your area will probably also affect your decision.   In some cases, you might be able to receive some forms of financial aid to help pay for your classes.  If you are a displaced worker, it might also be possible to receive help to cover the cost of your training.  Look into any options available to you in order to find the best choice for your nursing assistant training needs.

You will receive top-notch training and education when attending a Red Cross CNA course.  This program will prepare you well for both your career as a certified nursing assistant and the certification you need to take in order to start that career.

If you are not able to receive nursing assistant training at no cost to you, then you will need to pay for training.  If you attend training at a community college or allied health course, you will be charged for your course.  This type of training is typically considered non-degree education which means you cannot always receive financial aid to take these courses.  That can leave you paying out of your own pocket.

You will probably also be paying for CNA certification training if you complete your coursework at a nursing school.  It might sometimes be possible to receive financial assistance for a portion of your tuition.  The rest of the cost, you will need to pay for on your own.

If you will be needing paid CNA training, you should take your time to find the best value for your money.  Search for training programs with a positive reputation at an affordable price.  Make certain any courses that you take are fully accredited making you eligible for the certification exam.  Do not be tricked into taking a cheaper course if it is not one that allows you to become a certified nursing assistant.

Paid During Training

There are some instances in which you can actually be paid during your CNA training.  Basically you can find a couple ways in which this can occur.  You can be paid in the sense that an employer actually pays for your training for you.  Many nursing home facilities pay for people to become certified.  Upon completion of your certification, you would then need to work for that facility for an agreed upon amount of time.  If you have recently been hired to work as a nursing assistant and need to complete your training, this is a good option for you.

In some cases you can even be paid while you train.  The specifics will be set forth by the employer who is paying for your training.  You might be paid if you are completing a training course that is held directly at the healthcare facility.  If the healthcare facility is not able to offer their own training programs, they might actually pay you for your time to go somewhere else to receive your training.  (They might or might not also pay for your training).  This can benefit you if you will need to miss time at work in order to receive your training.

The above scenario is particularly possible if you were working as a nursing aide who did not need to be certified who now does.  If you are trying to advance your career or your employer has recognized your abilities as a nursing assistant, they might offer to pay you so that you will go for training and become a valued member of their certified nursing assistant team.
