Nursing assistants help individuals who are sick or injured with activities of daily living. They provide a variety of basic (non-medical primarily) nursing services. You can start on a path to a career as a certified nursing assistant by entering a CNA training program.
Training Hours and Requirements
The nursing assistant training programs that qualify you to sit for the certification exam in Kansas are approved by the Department of Health and Environment. You must attend a course that meets all criteria requirements set forth by the Department or you will not be able to become a CNA. Courses will be at least 90 hours in length. Some of your time will be spent in the classroom and some time will be spent in clinical training.
It is necessary to complete all components of a nursing assistant training course. You should make very effort not to miss any classes. Talk to your instructor right away if you must miss a training session. Upon completion of the course, you can then complete the paperwork to schedule to sit for the nursing assistant competency exam.
CNA Certification Transfer to kansas Via Reciprocity
Kansas offers nursing assistant certification reciprocity with some states. This means that they will accept the certification from another state allowing you to receive your nursing assistant certification in Kansas. Some certification requirements are waived if you are approved for reciprocity so that you can begin working as a CNA in Kansas sooner if you have recently moved there.
The state of Kansas does not transfer certification from all states. You can contact the Department of Health and Environment for information about reciprocity and to determine if the state from where you hold certification is one from which Kansas offers certification through reciprocity. Complete all forms in their entirety and submit any requested documents if you are applying to transfer your certification from another state.

CNA Certification Renewal in Kansas
It is necessary to renew your nursing assistant certification every two years. This can be done by completing the renewal forms that you will receive before your license is set to expire. The forms must be sent in on time in order to properly renew your license. It is necessary to have worked for pay as a certified nursing assistant or in a related field at some point over that twenty-four month period.
Forms will be mailed to you several weeks before you need to renew your certification. The due date on these forms will actually be 30 days before your certification expires. This is intended to ensure that the Department has ample time to review your renewal paperwork before your certification’s expiration date.
FAQ
Q: I have changed my last name and my address. I did not receive my renewal forms. How can I get them sent to me or preferably get a copy of the forms on the internet to complete since my certificate expires 9-30-11?
A: You will need to get in touch with the CNA registry to notify them of your change in name. If the name or address has not been updated you will not receive your renewal forms in the mail and will thus have to download a copy from the registry website.
