We’ve got a CNA study guide for Georgia. Here’s a sneak peak:

During your shift, you noticed that one of your residents soiled the bed linens. What should you do?

  1. Change the patients clothes only
  2. Wait 30 minutes to see if it happens again
  3. Change the patient’s clothes, bed linens and follow with a sponge bath
  4. None of the above

Answer: C – Refer to Section 4 of the CNA Study Guide (Hygiene)

Patients deserve dignity concerning sensitive issues, such as hygiene and CNAs must respond quickly when incontinence occurs. Urine left uncared for can cause a patient’s fragile skin to break down, which may result in pain and irritation.  When patients soil clothing or bed linens, it is important to thoroughly clean them as well as the surrounding areas to prevent illness and infection.

Start by removing any soiled clothing or diapers and proceed with a sponge bath if needed.  Also remove and replace any soiled bed linens. It is your responsibility to place all soiled items in the proper container.

If you determine that any dressings have been soiled, notify the person in charge of the patient’s wound care. Illnesses and infection can be transmitted through bodily fluids.  So it is important that you change dressings quickly.
