There are two primary ways to become a certified nursing assistant in the state of Nebraska. The first is to enter a state approved CNA training program. The certified nursing assistant programs are very affordable and typically take no more than four weeks to complete. The course prepares students to perform the skills and duties of a nursing assistant. After students successfully complete and pass the CNA training program, they must take (and pass) the certification exam for the state of Nebraska. An individual becomes a certified nursing assistant upon passing the examination. A person’s name will be listed on the Nurse Aide Registry within about four weeks of passing the nursing assistant competency test.
Some individuals can become a certified nursing assistant in Nebraska without needing to complete a training course. These are individuals who already have skills and qualifications that would allow them to safely and effectively work as a CNA. Some individuals who might quality to challenge the CNA exam without completing a course include: nurses who were trained in a foreign country, nurses who allowed their license to lapse and individuals who received nursing aide training in the military. People who think they are qualified to challenge the CNA exam must submit paperwork to the Nurse Aide Registry in Nebraska. They need to submit proof of their training and experience. If the Nurse Aide Registry in Nebraska agrees that the individual is well trained, they can then take the certification exam. If they pass, they will be granted the title of CNA without taking the training course.
