Is there an age limit in PA for CNA work? My niece passed her CNA certs and was ‘hired’ at a facility and then told she had to be 18 to work a lift. This does not make sense since she worked a lift to pass her test? thanks

    • Admin August 31, 2010 at 10:46 pm #

It depends on the facility. Due to the stress level of the work, some facilities requires their CNA’s to be above 18.

  9. Daphne Williams September 7, 2010 at 5:57 pm #

My CNA certification just expired 8/14/2010, how can I be re-certified without taking the classes again?

    • Admin October 7, 2010 at 10:31 pm #

      Hi Daphne,
Provided you completed your CEU and working requirements for the last two years, you should easily be able to renew your application. Check out http://cnatraininghelp.com/cna-certification/ and see the specific renewal instructions for your state by clicking on the links in the right navigation bar.

  10. Colette September 12, 2010 at 9:04 pm #

Would a misdemeanor conviction of harrassment 9 years ago prevent me from being eligible to be licensed as a CNA?

    • Admin September 21, 2010 at 10:52 am #

Hi Colette, It really depends on the state you’re applying in. Why don’t you call up the nursing board in your state and see what they say. You can check out the nurse aide registries by state

  12. Sarah September 15, 2010 at 7:55 am #

I work for a hospital and they only offer tuition reimbursment, but my funds are tight being a single mother and I can’t afford to pay for the classes up front. Do you have any suggestions for free or very low cost CNA classes in Columbia, SC? I already checked with the red cross and they don’t offer the classes and the local One Stop is based on the amount of money you make and I am not eligible, but most of my money that is brought in is sent right back out for bills. Any suggestions you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    • Admin September 21, 2010 at 10:43 am #

      Hi sarah,
Have you checked out our free CNA training page? We have a specific one for the state of South Carolina.

    • Admin September 21, 2010 at 10:30 am #

You can get in touch with the Illinois nursing board and send them your current certification. If you’ve worked for a certain amount of hours (as per regulation) you should have no problem in getting certification in Illinois via reciprocity

Hi, my husband just got out of the military and his benefits are not acceptiable to me, I am a stay at home mother of three. I’m not working at this time and I am also looking and have always wanted to work in the medical field. Due to no income I am in GREAT need of infromation on free CNA classes near Arkansas City KS, 67005. thank you

    • Admin October 21, 2010 at 10:20 pm #

      Hi Charissa,
Your best bet is to look at nursing homes in your area of Arkansas that have open vacancies for CNA’s. Usually, they’ll hire you before certification and then pay for your training as long as you agree to work for them for a long period after.

      – The Job Corps offers free CNA classes in massachusetts. Lookup their locations in Massachusetts here: http://www.recruiting.jobcorps.gov/en/centerlocations.aspx?statename=ma

Hi, I was wondering if I had to retake the CNA class to get certified in MS. I have taken the class here in Arkansas and am in the process of moving back to MS. I have my certificate stating the hours I took during the class and passed the class part. However, I have not as of yet become certified. I was going to retake the exam here in AK but since I am having to move back to MS I decided to wait and try to get certified in MS.

    • Admin October 24, 2010 at 2:08 pm #

      Hi,
Since you haven’t been certified in AK, you will not have the option of apply for transfer through reciprocity.
I belive you will have to take the training in MS. You can however contact the Nursing board in MS for clarification.

    CNA STUDENT PLEASE READ(SKILLS VIDEO)

Hello my name is Brett Urie and I’m going to be taking the State of Florida’s CNA Licensing exam very soon. I sent my package into Prometric and I’m waiting to hear back from them. I have taken a very good course here in Boca Raton but I still think extra review for the Skills part of the test would be smart. To have something that I could review the next week or two from my own house would be perfect. Is this what your company is offering. If it is please send me the link so I can purchase as soon as possible! I really appreciate any help you can give me and once again it’s only the skills part of the exam I need the help with.

    Sincerely,

    Brett Urie

i was wondering who i contacted about felonies and what states do not allow people with them. i would like to talk directly to a person about this issue. i have called many places and they are all automated, and i would like to speak with a real person.

    • Admin February 18, 2011 at 12:15 pm #

You should still be able to get a license with a criminal record. There may be obvious exceptions for people with severe, violent and abusive criminal records. Those would be handled on a case by case basis.
Finding a job after you’re certified depends on the state and criminal offense, drug offenses are typically more frowned upon and if you have any history of client abuse or have been convicted for mistreatment it will likely affect your getting hired. If you have a criminal record you can expect to experience more hassle when finding a job, especially in California.

Looking for CNA classes in N. Louisiana very hard to find I called all the resources that are free, no results. In South Louisiana resources and classes are plentiful free and paid. In North Louisiana where I am very few resources that are free and inexpensive. I finally found a place they will train you and employ. I made an application (CNA expired) just hope I can get in and soon, cause I love this field of work. Once I get it back will never let it go again. Thank You for your website it an inspiration.

    Hi sandra,

I do appreciate all your effort to inform me about CNA free taining, but I, have this problem and I, know you can be a good adviser, I, have this strongh passion for health care career, the problem is that I, want it online because I, live in spain and do not speak spanish but English please could you sent me news letters of any good school with online CNA training.

    • Admin February 18, 2011 at 12:04 pm #

      Hi Joy,
While you can do the theory part of CNA training online, you’ll still need to do the clinicals at a certified facility. There’s no getting around that.

  37. Terrea January 26, 2011 at 2:25 pm #

Should i try to get my GED b4 i go in to my local care center and ask for training?

    • Admin February 18, 2011 at 11:08 am #

Yes.. Having a GED or high school equivalency increases your chances of getting free training since it shows you’re responsible enough. It is however not a must.

  38. Lisa January 28, 2011 at 2:37 pm #

Hi im looking for the free cna classes in kokomo ind and what are the requirements for a cna class.

    • Admin February 13, 2011 at 10:01 pm #

The requirements depend on the training center or nursing home. Most of the time however all you need is to show a high school diploma and you’ll be eligible for the classes.

      Hi Dinane,

Thank you for your kind words. The email goes out to a huge list of people so I’ve been unable to segment it to send opportunities relevant to each person’s state. I also update the state specific pages on our website so you can keep checking those for more opportunities as and when they come up. You can check out http://cnatraininghelp.com/free-cna-training/ and then click on the links to the right specific to your state.

    Hello

My name is Salome Mgaloblishvili, I’m 22 years old from Georgia Tbilisi, I’m the sixth grade student of Georgian Government Medical University faculty of medicine. Next year I’ll have finished my bachelor studying and wish to take CNA, can you tell me is it possible for foreign student to take courses in USA, pass that test and take certificate. If it is possible can you send college web site where i can take this courses and other important details.

    Thank you in forward
    sincerely Salome

    • Admin June 30, 2011 at 8:54 pm #

      Hi Salome,
You would need to have a valid Visa which allows you to study in the Unites states. I’m not sure a CNA training provider would be able to give a student visa. You will need to contact colleges directly and see what they say.

    • Admin June 30, 2011 at 8:49 pm #

      Hi Christy,
They may be valid topics.. but you need to get your CEU’s from an authorized provider of continuing education. If the place where you took the training is accredited than you’ll be able to claim those hours as valid CEU’s

if you have acess to a blood pressure cuff you can practice on anyone.  The important thing is documentation, even when your just practicing  for example , my bp is 120/68  this  within normal values for blood pressure .My wt is 156 lbs you would have to convert it into kilograms.      weight(wt) this is out of my book hopefully this will help you.  156lbs wt  divided by 2.2 = 70.90 kgkg then to convert kg to lbs you multiply by 2.2 .
normal values for blood pressure(bp)*Child 10 years 100/65*Adloescent 16 years- adult 118/75 systolic less than120diastolic less than 80*Prehypertenison  120-139/80-89*High blood pressure Above 140/90

Hi, I have to renew my license in California. It is 48 credits, 24 of which I have taken online. My other 24 looks like they need to be supervised. I work as an independent contractor in a private home. Any ideas on how I can get my supervised hours in?

    • Admin July 27, 2011 at 8:10 pm #

Hi Monica, the only way would be to work under the supervision of a nurse. You could do that if you had temporary employment in a nursing home or hospital.

We only provide information on free CNA training. We have detailed a host of ways you can get free training to become a nursing assistant, both on the state specific pages as well as the more generalized page over at http://cnatraininghelp.com/free-cna-training/
Having prior schooling such as a GED isn’t always necessary.

    Hi,

I was wondering if you can assist me in renewing my CNA license that I recieved in California and I have now recently moved to Ohio. I am not sure about the steps to take in renewing it. Thank you.

Hi Kidan, did your license expire already or is it still active. If it is still active, you will need to transfer it to Ohio. For that you will need to contact the Ohio Nurse Aide Registry.

I just recently moved to another state i transfered my license over to my new state.I am now seeking employment. They wanted me to get something stateing how many years of exp i hav so i can get credit for all the exp i hav.My question is how or where can get info about the first year i got my license.

There are a few ways to go about this. You can contact the CNA board for the state where you got your expereince. They should have on file the record of your employment history as long as the places you worked did a check for your licensure number. You can also simply request your employement record(s) from your past jobs. Hope this helps and good luck!

    Hello,
I am interested in changing a career. I am now enrolled with Lincoln Tech Institute in Brockton Massachusetts and I am training to become a medical assistant but I really want to be a Certified Nurses Aide and this reason was back in the 80’s I was a nurses aide but then when it had to be certified I did not have my high school diploma and I loved the job and helping people. So when in 2010 I went back to high school and I received my high school diploma in 2012 and I was looking into CNA classes but at the time they were all full and the hours was when I was working. Since April of this year I had been laid off and during my job I was going to Lincoln Tech part time until June I now go 24 hours a week I guess through the section 30. As of today I saw this web site and I am interested in changing careers and I want to know what should I do and if I am allowed knowing the started the section 30 and do I have to graduate from here first to decide I am confused would like some positive feed back.

I’m delighted to read these CNA articles. I love nursing (finished my BSN in 1977 and still working hard, I love my patients). It would be helpful to include some topics on safety for CNAs -e.g. patients who are themselves assaultive, While some patients are assaultive due to confusion or dementia or other neurological problems, other patients may end up in a nursing home when they should be in a different facility, and actually have some criminal history. Another good topic for this blog would be safety for CNAs if providing in-home care (and others are coming and going from the home/ neighborhood), or providing night nursing in a nursing home when there are fewer staff on shift etc.

I have my certification in Illinois. I stopped working in 2011 as a CNA. I just moved here to South Carolina and thinking of getting a job as a CNA. I just checked the status of my certificate online in the healthcare worker registry, but it does not say active or inactive. Could someone help me determine if I need to recertify, or could I transfer my certificate to South Carolina? Thank you so much for your time.
