Free CNA Training in Connecticut

If you have decided to train to become a certified nursing assistant in Connecticut, you might be looking for free cna training options.  There are opportunities to receive assistance in paying for fees associated with training courses from state approved CNA training programs. Here are a few free training options for Connecticut:

1) NAHCA: You should contact a local branch of the National Associated of Health Care Assistants and similar associations for entry-level healthcare providers.  Some of these associations offer scholarships to individuals who are looking to start a new career.  You can ask for assistance paying for nursing assistant training and can ask for referrals to other organizations that might be able to help.

2) Community Colleges: It is possible to earn up to about $34,000 annually as a CNA with a couple years of good experience under your belt.  It is worth the time it takes to locate good quality (sometimes even free) cna training options.  You should contact community colleges and technical schools in your area to find those offering nursing assistant training courses.  If you enter into these programs, you might receive enough financial aid to cover the cost of training.

3) Nursing Care Facilities: Free training is often offered to individuals who agree to work as a qualified CNA for healthcare facilities upon completion of their certification.  Many nursing care facilities, provide training programs for nursing assistants and also cover the cost of this training.  Do not be shy about calling around to nursing care facilities in your area and expressing your interest to become a certified nursing assistant.  Do not forget to contact long-term care facilities, continuing care communities and even home health agencies.

Direct Free Training Opportunities

Free Training from the Jewish Home For the Elderly
They are going to have free classes for qualified candidates starting on the 16th of April 2012.  You need to have a GED or high school diploma. To qualify, you need to prepare the following:
– 2 letters of recommendation  from people not related to you.
– A Letter that explains why the nursing home should hire you. (We believe this is a very important part of their selection process so make sure you write something really good that explains why you’d want to work as a CNA there and why you’d be an asset to their team)
– Note that if you do not end up completing their free program, as in if you quit in the middle without valid reason you will have to pay $1000 for the program. This is fair since they will invest time and money in training you and wouldn’t want you to leave halfway because you weren’t interested or something.
– A Completed application. You can download the form from www.jhe.org (then click on the job posting link)

Send all of the above to: (before March 30th)

FAQ

Q: My name is Zahra and I am 16 years old. I am very interested in getting my CNA certification. Ive been taking care of my parents (60 and 72) for a few years now. I give them their medication, cook for them, clean for them and take them for walks. I now understand that I am old enough to get my certification and would love to start working as soon as possible. However I cannot work anywhere far from Bridgeport CT as that is where my parents and I live, I would love a reply and hopefully it will be good news. Thank you for your time.

A: That’s a very young age to be taking care of your parents! You’re extremely mature for your age. You should ideally be in high school which is one of the easiest places to get free training from. Speak to your school counselor and see if your school offers evening vocational classes. If it does you might be eligible for free training since high school seniors almost always are. If this isn’t an option for you, the best lace is to visit nursing homes near you. The only problem though is that most are reluctant to hire under 18’s so you might get trained but won’t be able to work as easily till you’re 18. Best of luck!

Hey, My name is Nicola.. I have been living in the US for a while.. I am from Jamaica and I have been in the nursing facility (CNA) for years and I have worked at a hospital in Jamaica for 10 years , when I came to the US I realized that I have to do over all my courses and go to clasees to get a job.. I would really like to do CNA classes because I have been a CNA for 10 years which I stated earlier and my passion is to help people because my dad died in a hospital and I was not at that specific hospital to help him and his death took a strong impact on me and to make my dad proud I decided to keep helping and taking care of people by being a CNA until I can further my studies and career to being a RN(registered nurse)..
