Free CNA Training in Texas

You can earn a good salary working as a certified nursing assistant in Texas.  The average salary is around $33,000.  You can earn your certification by completing a program that is approved by the state as well as the state competency exam.  There are even some potential opportunities to help you train for free:

1) Free CNA training can sometimes be accessed through The Workforce and Continuing Education Department.  The Texas division of this department might offer training to you if you have a low income and are between the age of 17 and 21.  You should contact the local department in your area to determine if you might qualify and for details about how to apply.

guidelines

2) You can sometimes receive  training as the result of a full scholarship for training.  These scholarships are often sponsored by organizations and businesses in your local area.  You should discuss with each CNA training school of interest the possibility of applying for a scholarship.   They should be able to provide you with the information you need to locate scholarships.

3) A nursing care facility or other types of healthcare providers might hire you to work as a CNA before you receive certification.  These facilities often like to hire prospective CNAs and provide as well as pay for their training.  You will not be able to receive training and then start a career as a CNA somewhere else.  Instead, you will work for the employer who provided training for a previously agreed about amount of time. DARS
if you’re disabled and may be able to work as a nurse aide, you can receive free training by applying here: http://www.dars.state.tx.us/drs/vr.shtml  (They usually help retrain individuals in jobs that allow them to earn a steady income and become self sufficient. The training costs are usually taken care of via Government subsidies and grants. It is worth applying to if you qualify as it may also open options in careers that may be more better than nursing)

The facility is very close to a hospital and caters to a maximum of 120 residents. They have a gym and sun room as well! (how cool is that?) If you’re interested, call the number above and ask for the HR dept.

Low Cost Training

Smithwood Medical Institute
7100 Regency Square Blvd-Ste 210-Houston, TX 77036

Smithwood Medical Institute offers a CNA training program that receives excellent feedback from current and former students. There are both day and evening classes available for students from all different circumstances. The class is taught in such a way that it does not matter if someone is recently out of high school or if they have not been to school in many years.  The students will still be able to pick up on the materials being taught.  And if they need a little extra help, they can obtain it easily from the caring and experienced trainers. The program includes the clinical experience as well as lecture and other related instruction.

Students also are able to take part in mock interviews and can receive help preparing their resume. Job placement assistance is also taken very seriously at Smithwood Medical Institute.  This is a privately owned school with two women as the founders.  Students say the founders are actively involved with students and want every man and women who comes through their doors for training to graduate the program and to receive excellent job offers.  Many former students have said that this was a superb school that taught the materials in a way that everyone could understand and in such a way that it was not difficult to transfer this training to successful work as a nursing assistant from the moment they graduate and obtain certification.

Students commented that the class sizes were often small.   Sometimes there were not even a dozen students in a class.  More than one person commented about how much this helped them to get even more out of the learning and training experience.  They said teachers were able to help each individual student even more when they had questions or were struggling since there were not too many students in any given class.  Students received a personalized instruction as needed from teachers who were patient with all students. This school is known for teaching students a high level of professionalism and even to teach them to dress for success. One student was so pleased with her experience, that she has decided she will return to school to study Phlebotomy at some point in the very near future. Tuition is able to be paid by setting up payment plans for those individuals who cannot pay up front and who are not able to access any type of financial assistance opportunity.

  5. Sandra Bates January 16, 2013 at 4:47 am #

I am a 47 year old female wanting to get my CNA certificate and then apply for the LVN program. When I was in highschool I worked as a CNA in our hometown in the ER. When I married I moved many miles from town to our Ranch. Being on the ranch away from town makes it hard to drive to the big cities because gas is so high at this time.

I don’t have a job at this time. I took the sample test online and made a 100 in 40 minutes. If there is an accredited school I could take this online yet would like suggestions on what schools to trust. So many have claimed they did not receive their certificate after paying for the class and making the grade. I’ve always had a strong passion for the medical field yet put my children first. They are now grown and on their own. I have nothing but time on my hands.
    Hope to hear from someone.

    Thank you,
    Mrs. Bates

I want to know if the state of Texas allows you to just challenge the CNA state exam without retaking the course. My certification has expired in Texas but I have been working as a CNA in Missouri for the past two years or so

    • melandy May 4, 2016 at 3:13 am #

If it has expired, you must re train as in take the course again. I asked because I was in the same boat. They won’t let you just take the exam and you’re a cna again, I wish they did.
