They have an application process specifically for those who wish to go through the WIA route. Depending on your household income and employment status, you might be eligible to receive government funding for your training. The National Association of Hispanic Nurses Scholarship is awarded to Hispanic applicants who demonstrate a commitment to the nursing profession and have the potential to act as role models for other students wanting to start a career in nursing. We’re not sure CNA training is one of the pathways allowed in this scholarship, its still worth it exploring this option if you’re okay with any kind of career in nursing.

I understand their reasoning but I just wanted to make sure it was a good idea. They will prepare me by giving me on the job clinical training and will help me with the theory part as well. I will then need to have a state test done. I will also be paid while i am trained which is amazing. Is it a good idea to sign a contract in this case?
A: As you’ve stated, they’re simply protecting their investment. If they spend money to train you they expect you to work for them. Very rarely will you get free nurse aide training without a catch. We feel you should go for it but as always make sure you consult someone who’s knowledgeable with contracts to make sure you are able to leave should there be an issue.

Hi, I went to Covenant which is 3 weeks in class and 1 week clinical at a nursing home. I would say that it was 4 weeks but really it’s a 5 week program because you need to learn the rest of the skills in order to pass the state exam. I did it and passed. Don’t get dragged into the “Oh, we can help you get into Emory Hospital.” They never pick up the phone but you will pass the exam. Anyhoo, tuition costs like TB test cpr and first aide totaled to about 800$. Go for the WIA grant. It will help. Getting free classes is kind of hard if you don’t know where to start. Go to your workforce office. I live in Dekalb County so i went to the Dekalb Workforce. Red Cross will only teach you CPR and First Aide. So, good luck with Covenant CNA. They are a great school. All of the mentors and administrators are from the Military. I passed. I will start working at Emory Hospital Midtown January 7 2013. How did i get in? I worked with someone at a retail store who works for emory now and he helped me get an interview. Really, you have to knw someone before you can even think of getting an interview at a hospital. Try job agencies. there are a lot in Georgia. Good luck!
