Free CNA training in Virginia

If you are looking for an entry-level healthcare job where you can make up to $30,000 per year in the State of Virginia, you should consider training as a certified nursing assistant.  You will need to locate and attend an accredited CNA training course and then pass the exam for certification.  Most courses cost less than $900.  There are options you can look into for free cna training as well. Read below:

There are some colleges in the state of Virginia that offer nursing assistant programs.  If you attend a program that is comprised of regular credit hours, you can apply for state and federal financial assistance.  You will receive free cna training if you are approved for enough grants to cover your tuition.  The same is true if you are approved for enough scholarship money to complete nursing assistant training.

You can be reimbursed any money you spent for nursing assistant training courses if you are hired by a nursing care facility in Virginia.  An employer will reimburse your expenses if you are hired to work as a CNA for their facility within one year of receiving your certification.  Although, you will need to initially cover the cost out of your own pocket, in the long run, your CNA training will be free. More info on How To Get Free Training Through Nursing Homes

Many nursing homes and retirement communities will actually pay you to become a certified nursing assistant.  There is a high demand for quality nursing assistants with certification.  For this reason, many of these facilities provide training for individuals as long as they are then willing to work for the facility for an amount of time as agreed to in a contract.

You will not need to pay out more than you can afford for CNA training.  You can find options to receive free cna training or to receive a reimbursement of the money you spend for training.

      Hi jessica,
Training lasts for a few weeks… normally not more than three.
The timing depends totally on the facility you train in. Some can even arrange evening classes should you want to take them at that time.

TAP Total Action Against Poverty (This Valley Works program) Roanoke, Va provides a 140 hr and life skills class for those who qualify free and they pay the written and skills test with the sate. Its a 8 week course. They go above and beyond what ‘basic’ training classes give you.

Friendship Retirement Community in Roanoke off Hershburger road hires you, cna trains you and pays for state testing. The HR personal can direct you.

I’m 4 weeks in to the TAP program. Very good 0800-1430 hrs Monday – Friday. Many resources offered to aid you. They care!

  11. Jamie August 4, 2011 at 3:10 pm #

Hi to update the website I live in VA Beach area. I have called all of the facilities listed for Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Virginia Beach and none offer CNA training. Some of the ones I had spoken to have had students come through there during their clinicals.

    • Admin August 4, 2011 at 4:25 pm #

Hi Jamie, Thank you for the heads up. The nursing homes listed above do not necessarily offer free CNA training. They are however a starting point for those looking to get CNA training by way of employment at a nursing home. Many times, the nursing homes have active vacancies for CNA’s where they end up hiring non qualified workers only to then train them to become CNA’s. Our list features only the more prominent nursing homes, you could even try other nursing homes in your area that aren’t listed above.

    Hello!
I just moved here, to Virginia Beach, from Missouri. I took an accredited CNA course but did not take the test. In December my course will have been over for a year. Do I need to retake the course or is there a way that I can just take the exams? And do you have any idea of about how much the exams cost?
    Thanks,
    Martie
