If you are planning a career as a certified nursing assistant in the state of Michigan, you will need to attend a state approved CNA program and then pass a CNA certification exam. Your training is not done when you become a certified nursing assistant. Each year, you will be required to complete 12 continuing education credits. These credits are often available during in-service sessions provided by your employer. Continuing education is intended to keep you up to date on your training as a nursing assistant and to ensure you are always ready to provide the highest level of care to your patients.
You will need to work at least eight hours every two years (as a certified nursing assistant) in order to keep your certification active. If you allow your certification to lapse, you will need to complete a CNA training course again and to retake the certification exam. Work as a CNA is often considered an entry level healthcare position with an average income of $23,000 per year. However, many CNAs work their way up to making as much as $31,000 per year. This is especially true of CNAs with several years experience and CNAs who continuing working for the same employer for a few years or more.
